Ultimaker wins print competition with SLA torture test

Last month, at the 3dexpo event in Prague, two teams participated in the Clash of the 3D printers competition with Ultimaker printers. 3D Print Stationand 3DWiser represented Ultimaker in this prized competition and won first and second place!

The judges chose the infamous Make: rook as the model to be printed. This rook is normally used by Make: magazine as a torture test for SLA resin printers, which would make it an interesting challenge for the FFF filament printers present at 3dexpo. All competitors printed this model at 50mm height without supports. We're proud to announce that the Ultimaker 2 Go and Ultimaker 2+ won the first and second prize in the competition, proving that they're up to printing complex models originally designed for SLA printers.

Winning Make: rook 0.25mm nozzle print

The first prize was won by 3D Print Station with this print made on an Ultimaker 2 Go, modified with an Olsson Block. A 0.25mm nozzle was used to print the rook, to retain as much fine detail in the final result as possible. The circular text on top, which has a lineheight smaller than 2mm, is often obscured on the rook print when using regular size nozzles but stays perfectly readable in this version. The judges were impressed by the quality of the surface finish, details, overhangs, bridges and the uniformity of the layers.
